NJCAA - East Valley briefs: P.V. runs away with cross country titlePublished by
From Staff ReportsPaced by freshman Talihar Hasson and sophomores Eric Harasyn and Jeremy Sudbury, the Paradise Valley men's cross country team captured the National Junior College Athletic Association cross country title today in Spartanburg, S.C. The Pumas picked up 97 points on the 8K course to defeat runner-up South Plains College (Texas), which scored 109 points. "It's incredible," said coach David Barney in a release to the PVCC Web site. "We ran a great race and I thought we had finished second, so when the results were posted, it was almost unbelievable." PVCC's men's worse finish this year, while running at full strength, was a third at the University of Arizona's Dave Murray Cross Country Invitational in September.This is the second title for the Pumas, who last won a title in 2004 and have claimed six national titles in their history. On the women's side, PVCC finished seventh, while Mesa Mountain View freshman Hailey Hanna finished ninth overall. |
